“I’m inspired by an appreciation of all things fun and exciting and this experience has been one of the best. I just can’t stop smiling when I think about “Paradise Girl” bringing play and imagination to young and old alike. I’m also so grateful to Junko and Junie Moon for this fabulous opportunity to be a part of Blythe pop culture!” said Danene, the designer and owner of Manuheali’i.

Q: When you designed the outfits for Blythe - Manuheali’i Paradise Girl, what were your concerns, your intention, your focal points?
A: We wanted to style Blythe Paradise Girl with classic summer essentials that we wear all year long. The contemporary bold graphics of Manuheali’i is always inspired by our culture, island lifestyle and lush environment.

1st. Her long flowing halter dress easily takes her from work or to the stage for a hula. With this “Coral Reef” design we hoped to bring awareness to beach goers to protect and preserve the reef.

2nd. A girly top with sassy white shorts and sunglasses is a must for the beach. Don’t forget the sunscreen! This “Kinehe” print in bright tangerine is about this little endemic flowered shrub that is not only beautiful, but also used to make healthy teas.

3rd. The Puka shell hoop earrings, designed by Ku’u complete her collection and give her that modern stylish edge.

Q: What do you think of Blythe -the doll- your impression of this doll?
A: I was just captivated by the Blythe Doll and how fun it was to play with.
I couldn’t wait to dress her up, style her hair and imagine things for her to do. The many eye colors are such a unique feature and make it seem she has many different moods.

Q: Which details of the design process were you most concerned about?
A: We are always trying to paint our clothing collections in vibrant, breath taking color combinations. Lucky we could use fresh citrus hues and bright whites. I wished we could give her more accessories, some hula supplies, a bag, hula skirt, hair accessories, etc.

Q: Please give us your impression on the final product. Did it come out the way you wanted?
A: Paradise Girl looks so beautifully exotic, with her long hair and eyelashes and happy little smile, like she knows the secret of aloha.
It seems the Hawaiian and Japanese culture have so many similarities, it’s no wonder we are so interested cultural diversity!
